Team openings
TXP Magazine is not an employer. Everybody who serves on the publishing team does so voluntarily, collaborates professionally, and wants to make the magazine as great as it can be. Each person brings unique skills and insights to the task. Individual contributions are manageable, pleasant, and may even make one wiser from the experience of doing them.
Opportunities
When opportunities are available, they’ll be indicated below. If you have any questions, or a role should strike your fancy, give a shout to Destry Wion to discuss it.
Column editors (2):
We’re looking for two column editors to write articles on a rotational basis with other team editors. You must be confident writing in English, and bonus points for experience with the editorial process. Editors may be asked to rotate on various columns, including:
- Community Spotlight articles involve making arrangements with people to be interviewed, developing interview questions in collaboration with the team, and drafting the Spotlight articles for editorial review.
- Site Watch articles involve helping to select a site candidate for review, contributing to site evaluations by scoring sites against a matrix of criteria, and drafting Site Watch articles for editorial review.
- Meaningful Labour articles will vary, depending on familiarity with Textpattern architecture, but other topic opportunities will exist, such as application reviews and comparisons. The latter will involve helping to select a set of related applications or services, researching their creators, trial evaluating the software, and drafting the review articles.
Showdown! Editor
Showdown! is one of the originally conceived columns, but yet to be realised. Showdown! articles are comparisons of Textpattern CMS with other CMSs having similar capabilities and audience. This column is poised to be the magazine’s crown jewel in terms of reader attention.
We’re still looking for someone who can take charge of the Showdown! column, and nothing else. This person must be knowledgable of multiple publishing systems and/or independently capable of installing them locally to test and evaluate. This person will first help develop a benchmark matrix to do system comparisons, and later draft articles with editorial assistance.
Advertising Manager:
We need someone to help with refining our advertising offers, to help develop our leads list for potential advertisers and sponsors, to help create information items for promote advertising opportunities, and to take charge with contacting leads to bring advertising opportunities to their attention. Ideally, this person has web advertising, brand marketing, and/or ad sales experience (at least more than we already have among us), self-motivated, a confident writer, and understands that publishing great content also means sustaining it financially.
Team commitment
We expect that if you’re interested in a role, you’ll stick with it a while, and particularly if the fit is good. Regardless, we ask at least the time it takes to see two consecutive magazine issues published, and to finish any assigned tasks during that time, including any documentation if it was needed. After that you’re free to move on, but it’s always nice if you’re willing stay.
