As i said: ‘We’ will win! :) Nevertheless the 120 min match (Ger:Arg) made me grow 5 years older… Germany was in fact not playing that well as Argentina did. It took 80 minutes for the germans to score their first goal equalising Argentina´s lead. The next 40 min were just thrilling for millions of sweating soccer fans who joined the public viewing areas in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and so on.
Argentina never ever lost a World Cup penalty shoot-out so it was to assume they would kick Germany out. Goal keeper Lehmann (‘Mad Jens’ as they call him in the UK) stepped up to save spot-kicks from Roberto Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso to ensure celebration parties across Germany.
For two-time winners Argentina it was heartbreak and their emotions boiled over after the final whistle with several players involved in scuffles as tempers frayed.
The nationwide party goes on! Thanks Mannschaft.

It´s only 1 hour left till the quater finals start. Germany vs Argentina is the first match. Incredible exciting… of course i press my thumbs for Germany ;) (bear with me). Living in the inner city of Cologne, i still can hear cars rushing down the road. In 40 minutes it will be absolutely quiet outside and all we do is waiting for the german goals :).
Yeah, we will win!

It´s a huge, huge event over here in Europe, the World Cup 2006 taking place in Germany. And it´s an amazing fun going out, having a beer and watching the games. Nearly everybody in Germany is excited. Last night excitement reached it´s peak while the German team played against Poland. Poland was under great pressure after they lost their very first game against Equador.
From the beginning on the match was super fast and agressive. Throughout the 90 minutes blood pressure went higher and higher. Noone, really no one in the arena (60.285 soccer fans and 22 players) wanted to see the game ending with a 0:0. Poland battled… but in the end their energy was not sufficient any more.. Germany started one attack after the other. Oliver Neuville shot eventually the releasing goal in the last minute of the game.
It was an amazing and exciting game. The germans did a great job and presented themselfs as aspirants for the final.
So what you think: Will Germany win the WCup?
Note
Thanks to Paul Amstrong, Editor of the bbc worldcup blog for these so kind words:
Germany richly deserved their victory. Moreover, it’s important for the tournament that the host nation does well. And they have been fantastic hosts so far. Berlin is a revelation: not hiding from its chequered 20th century history, but at the same time sophisticated, forward-looking, and embracing the world and its biggest sporting party.
I never ever wrote about soccer and probably it will be my last try doing this in english – somehow rediculous of me having even tryed but it was fun :)
