2 weeks ago i saw an ad on television inviting the viewer to vote for the top dog of Germany. 2 years ago there was a show going on: Top Ten Germans ever! Einstein, Gutenberg or Albrecht Durer? These guys have nothing in common, did not even live in the same time, but folks let me tell you such Top lists are important!
What, for Gods sake would you do if you would not know your countrys top dog or top (historical) citizen? Yeah, the universe probably collapses over your heads and you are helplessly lost.

Top Ten lists bear a kind of magic in themselfes. People who deal with numerology argue: 1 is fulfilled in 10, which is 1 in existence, and the power underlying all existence – the “source and root of eternal nature.” 10 creates all things and is the kingdom or crown of God’s creation.
Christian cultures believe in the Ten Commandments. 10 disciples followed Jesus and soon Germany knows all about their top 10 dogs!

If you are a web developer or designer you are probably interested in the top ten web devs or designers of the world. Arghh and it sucks if you are not on the list but your f**** neighbour is.
