Blogging platform company Six Apart announced this morning that it has acquired Rojo, a feed reader and search engine that competes with Bloglines and other companies.
So what will happen to Rojo in the future? Here are 2 citings from the pressreleases:
“In fact, Six Apart plans to spin the Rojo service out – so we will continue to innovate and improve the service. As proof of that, stay tuned in September for a very significant release of Rojo.”
On the Six Apart press release you can read:
“Six Apart intends to sell a majority interest in Rojo’s newsreader services in the coming months,...”
That means they will become a minority stockholder of the service.
On the web all is about building communities and generating traffic.
In short: Six apart aquired a big user pool and the brilliant brains behind Rojo: Rojo CEO Chris Alden, Aaron Emigh, Andrew Bunner and Jim Ramsey. While Chris Alden is excited to work with SixApart, a user resumes on the Techcrunch blog:
So we should expect to see Rojo flooded with flash banner ads and pop-ups now right? Rojo is my preferred reader right now but if Six-Apart tries to squeeze a profit out by assaulting the user with ads, I may have to make a switch.
If it ever comes this far, check out the free Web Based Feed Reader NewsAlloy.
Nevertheless congrats to the former Rojo founders.
