The word Lomo is often used to refer to the LC-A and other LOMO branded consumer cameras with which one can take, often over-saturated, snapshots. The Lomo Effect is pretty popular and can be faked by Photoshop or Gimp.
On Flickr´s Technic Group conceptDawg published a Fake-LOMO (and Holga) Adobe Photoshop Script which automates the steps to faking. It is pretty easy to use and results are greate compared to many Photoshop Actions available on the web.
For Photoshop CS shift the Javascript into the scipts folder and run the script on a photo. Users of Photoshop 7 have to install the
Photoshop 7.0 Scripting plug-in v.1.0.2a first. It adds a ‘Script’ button under File -> Automatize. Then shift the CHLomoscrip_ps7.js into the script directory of your Photoshop folder. Run the script on a photo. It only takes a second or so and you are done. (It really saves you tons or time.)
If you are not content with the result, play around with the layers and adjust some settings; for example if it blows out a little bit too much detail in the highlights just make a duplicate of your original background layer, move it on top of the LOMO set, set blending to “Multiply” and then reduce the opacity to something like 50% (or whatever suits your taste).
Should the colors turn out too bright, take the lomo image, paste it into the original as a new layer, and set it to “multiply” or “darken”.
If you´ve done a great Lomo post a ‘before-after’ image here :).
Enjoy.
