Packt Open Source CMS Awards 2006

In the publishing arena of Web design books, Peach Pit Press/New Riders and Friends of ED (an Apress company) are probably the names most recognized on a bookshelf, but Packt Publishing, more than any other publisher I am aware of, makes as much of an effort to support the open source community as it does the authors of its books.

For example, for each book…

Typecon 2006

Matthew Smith, 1.07.06
typeography sample

If you are into type, into fonts, or want to be, and if you live in the North-Eastern part of the United States or have the cash to get there, then you’ll want to check out Typecon 2006, August 9-13. I caught the heads up from typographi, which looks to be a decent resource on all things type themselves.
I’ll be in London, cruising through Camden that time of August, but if there are any takers, we’d love to hear about it.

Painting of soccer players on the ceiling of Cologne station

1. July 06
As i said: ‘We’ will win! :) Nevertheless the 120 min match made me grow 5 years older… Germany was in fact not playing that well as Argentina did. It took 80 minutes for the germans to score their first goal equalising Argentina´s lead. The next 40 min were just thrilling for millions of sweating soccer fans who joined the public viewing areas in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and so on.
Argentina never ever lost a World Cup penalty shoot-out so it was to assume they would kick Germany out. Goal keeper Lehmann (‘Mad Jens’ as they call him in the UK) stepped up

T-Shirt Design Contest April 2006

On and off the TXP community could need some money for events like the last template contest or to reward a programmer. So TXP Mag set up a Spreadshirt Shop (Attention: this is right now only a dummy Spreadshirtshop for European customers though the US Shop will look the same). First of all it is fun, second we hope to collect a couple of Dollars/Euros for the community.

To get some nice shirt designs together, TXP Mag announces a Shirt Design Contest.

The winners will receive a free t-shirt which can be chosen from the shop.

Get comprehensive information on the contest on the forum.

Submission deadline is April 30, 2006.

Tomorrow, Saturday 4th, some of the TextDrive people meet up in Utrecht, Netherlands. Unbelievable but true, Dean Allen is coming too. May be he is bringing even some Weimaraners with him. At least i do hope so :).

Another TextMeeting will be held on 12th of Feb 06 in Paris. And that sounds really great. Lots of smokers ;) wine, beer, cocktails, gorgeous french food… what else do you need?
