A Flashsite with TXP

Alex, 1.08.05

ashmontgrill.com, a flashsite with TXP

A couple of months ago, Robby Macdonell did some flash production on a local restaurants website (www.ashmontgrill.com) originally designed by Boston design company Hamilton Hughes Design. As the client liked to update his site with new informations he was forced to apply a CMS.

Rob: “So I started looking around at a few different CMSs that I might be able to pull it off with. Obviously, to get the content into flash, it would have to be served as XML, so I had to have something I could have pretty good control over the output. Luckily, I only needed to manage text content, no images, files, etc., so my job was simplified somewhat. I also needed to be able to make the admin area as simple as possible, and restrict what the content admin could access so he didn’t use anything that wouldn’t transfer well to flash. On top of all that I knew the client wasn’t terribly computer savvy, so the CMS had to be really straightforward and easy to use.

I pretty quickly decided I’d try Textpattern first. Out of the two CMSs I have a fair bit of experience with, it seemed to fit the bill better. Drupal is the other one. I love it, but for small sites like this one it’s just overkill and too complicated.”

On the Forum Rob gives a fairly detailled overview how he manged TXP and Flash.
